Embedding Indicators in Decision-Making
The Embedding Indicators in Decision-Making Work Group focuses its activities on how to get the development and use of sustainability indicators to become embedded as standard procedure in sustainable development programs and projects at all levels. The group recognizes that there is a spectrum of types of indicators and how they are used, ranging from "report card" indicators that reflect the status of important issues at a particular moment in time to "instrument" indicators that are specifically designed to measure - and help push -- progress toward sustainability goals. This Work Group strives to better understand circumstances in which different types of indicators are used most effectively, and to promote the routine inclusion of indicators in all sustainability programs. The Work Group is also interested in exploring and understanding the role(s) indicators play in supporting community improvement efforts that may be based upon different model of community change processes.
